Grey PVC corrosion-resistant nuts on plating rack

Case Background

A East-China automotive parts plating plant used SUS316 stainless bolts to fasten anode rods on its nickel-chrome plating line, replacing them on average twice per month due to acid corrosion. With 480 M8-M16 bolts per line, annual consumption reached 11,520 pieces; including labor and downtime, total cost was about ¥380,000 per year.

Solution

After on-site review, FASTKING recommended a pvc (polyvinyl chloride) + PP (polypropylene) composite solution: pvc hex bolts with flat washers at high-load anode rod joints, and PP wing nuts at lighter hanging points for manual adjustment. Both materials withstand 50% HCl, 40% chromic acid, and 30% NaOH at room temperature, with no reaction to plating chemistry.

Specifications

  • Material: PVC grey (RAL7011) + PP natural
  • Sizes: M6×25 / M8×30 / M10×40 / M12×50 / M16×60 / M20×80 hex head + flat washers + wing nuts
  • Temperature: PVC 60°C continuous / PP 90°C continuous (covers plating bath temperatures)
  • Chemical resistance: 50% HCl, 40% CrO₃, 30% NaOH, 5% HNO₃

Results

Over 18 months across 2 plating lines, FASTKING delivered 24,000 PVC/PP fasteners:

  • Rack maintenance interval extended from 1.5 to 6 months with no failure replacements.
  • Annual rack cost reduced from ¥380k to ¥120k — a 68% saving.
  • Eliminated metal-ion contamination (Fe impurity down 90%), plating pass rate up 3.2 percentage points.
  • Rack weight reduced to about 1/5 of steel, easing operator handling.
