PA66 vs PEEK Fasteners: How to Choose the Right Material
PA66 (nylon 66) and PEEK (polyetheretherketone) are two of the most widely used high-performance plastic fastener materials in industry, but their performance differs significantly. This article helps engineers choose correctly across four dimensions.
1. Working Temperature
PA66: Continuous ~120°C, short-term up to 150°C. PEEK: Continuous 260°C, short-term up to 300°C. High-temperature applications (engine compartments, semiconductor processes) require PEEK.
2. Mechanical Strength
PA66 provides sufficient strength for general industrial assembly. PEEK offers higher strength, better rigidity and lower creep for high-load and precision assemblies.
3. Chemical Resistance
PA66 is sensitive to some solvents and acids. PEEK resists almost all organic and inorganic chemicals, including strong acids, bases and steam, making it the choice for chemical and oil & gas industries.
4. Cost
PA66 offers the best cost-performance ratio for most applications. PEEK costs roughly 10x more than PA66 and is economical only when performance truly requires it.
