plastic screw Temperature and Chemical Resistance Guide

plastic screws are not universal. Materials differ widely in continuous temperature, acid/alkali and solvent resistance. Select by service condition to avoid deformation, brittleness and stress cracking.

Temperature Ranges

nylon 66 about -40 to 110°C long-term and changes size with moisture; POM about -40 to 100°C, fatigue-resistant but not strong acid/alkali; PPS up to 200°C with excellent chemical resistance; peek up to 250°C with high strength but high cost.

Chemical Resistance

nylon resists neutral environments but not strong acid/alkali/oxidizers; POM resists weak alkali but decomposes in strong acid; PPS is stable in acids, alkalis and oils; peek resists most solvents for harsh chemical and high-temperature use.

Selection Advice

General electronics: nylon. Wear/low moisture: POM. High temp/chemical: PPS. Extreme strength/temp: PEEK. Validate with service-condition samples.
