Analysis of Main Materials for Plastic Fasteners: Properties & Application Scenarios
Material determines the performance, service life and application scope of plastic fasteners. Engineering plastics differ greatly in strength, temperature resistance, flame retardancy and weather resistance. We analyze widely used materials to help customers make proper selection.
1. Nylon (PA): Universal Material with Excellent Overall Performance
Nylon is the most widely used material, featuring high toughness, tensile strength, wear resistance and good insulation. It is used for screws, rivets, clips and cable ties in electronics, automotive and machinery. Modified nylon with flame retardant and high temperature resistance is suitable for electrical equipment.
2. ABS: Good Appearance for Decorative & Interior Parts
ABS has moderate hardness, rich color options and smooth surface. It is not suitable for long-term outdoor exposure and high temperature. It is commonly used for home appliance accessories, interior clips and decorative connectors focusing on appearance and regular assembly.
3. PC Polycarbonate: High Strength & High Temperature Resistance
PC features excellent impact resistance, high temperature resistance and good transparency. It is applied to heavy-load, impact-resistant and high-temperature working environments such as high-power electrical appliances and outdoor equipment. It is widely used for high-end products and harsh conditions.
4. PP Polypropylene: Cost-effective & Lightweight Material
PP is light-weight, acid and alkali resistant with low cost. It has limited rigidity and temperature resistance, and is mainly used for packaging parts, simple clips, gaskets and civil products pursuing cost performance.
5. Basic Principles for Material Selection
Choose nylon for regular indoor assembly, ABS for appearance-focused parts, PC for high temperature and impact conditions, and PP for low-cost civil products. Modified materials can be selected to meet special requirements like flame retardancy and anti-static performance.
