UAV and Drone Plastic Lightweight Fastener Demand Rises

Consumer and industrial drones, UAV models and educational robots are extremely weight-sensitive; every gram affects flight time and payload. Metal fasteners are heavy, so nylon and carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic fasteners are increasingly used in non-critical locations.

A drone frame has dozens of screws holding motor mounts, flight controllers, ESCs, battery bays and shells. Most are not highly loaded but must be light, insulating and non-interfering with signals—ideal for plastic screws.

Common Plastics

General frames and shells use nylon 66 or POM screws—low cost, tough and easy to mold. Higher strength and stiffness call for carbon-fiber nylon or peek.html target='_blank'>peek screws, with specific strength near low-grade aluminum at a fraction of the weight. Propeller quick releases and battery hatches that are serviced often avoid metal-thread stripping that would scrap the whole craft.

External drone parts see UV and temperature cycles; ordinary nylon embrittles in sun, so outdoor models use weather-resistant formulations or black carbon-fiber nylon.

Selection Notes

plastic screws are weaker in tension and shear and must not hold motor shafts or landing gear. Tightening torque is far lower than metal; over-torque snaps plastic screws or strips threads. Designers should increase thread engagement or use threaded metal inserts at permanent load points.

Drones operate outdoors in wind and rain; plastic screws won't corrode or galvanically react with carbon frames. Near GPS and antennas, plastic parts also avoid signal shielding.

Market Trend

Inspection, agricultural and logistics drones are scaling up, demanding consistent, batch-stable plastic fasteners. The hobby market wants small multi-packs in bright colors. Suppliers can serve both industrial bulk and hobby retail.

The plastic fastener range supplies nylon, POM, carbon-fiber and PEEK lightweight solutions.
